Caulk around skylight

Inspected the Greyhawk roof. Attached image shows the caulking around the shower skylight.

So, is this cracked enough to need a fix? If so, is it better to clean the old caulk with Dawn detergent and apply more Dicor self-leveling caulk on it? Or should I remove the old caulk using a hairdryer and then apply the Dicor?

Thanks.

Clean it up, buy a roll of ETERNABOND and cover all the DICOR on the roof. Then you may need to redo it 15 years later, but you should still inspect the roof annually though..

You can just wash it really well. Let it dry and apply Dicor right over the top. Once the cracking starts, you will find that it is a battle to keep up with it.

I did as Grump noted. Most people can get by with a 4" roll of Eternabond and do all the penetration's. I bought a 6" wide 50' roll as my front cap joint caulking was almost 4" wide.

Here is a few images after the eternabond has been on a few years.

Inspect the skylight carefully and consider its age as it might be wise to replace it now and be done with it. They call it Eternabond because it outlives almost everything including your now 7 year old skylight.

The shower skylight on my 17 Northpoint didn't hold up very well to my foot about a week ago. I was really surprised at how brittle it was. Here's the replacement I bought...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Specialty-R....m46890.l49292

It was a good $50 cheaper than getting one from the dealer. The dealer said the SR one they get is a kit, comes with sealant and all. I thought all I was buying was the dome itself. I opened the box and it had a tube of sealant included.
Now i have to wait for the weather to warm up a little and stay dry to do the repair install.

Thanks for the tips. Eternabond seems to be the way to go.

Obviously I will have some leftover Eternabond. If I stash the remainder in the Greyhawk, will it remain usable for some years yet, or does it harden or lose its stickiness?

The shelf life is 5 years! One thing to remember when installing it is DO NOT STRETCH IT...

I have most seams and openings on my roof done with Eternabond except my skylight. My thought at the time was that the skylight would be the first to be replaced so I just maintain the Dicor around it. 9 years old though and still going strong.

I have a small local independent RV repair center and they sell me Eternabond by the foot so if you have a local you might ask if they do the same.

I had a bad experience with eternabond. And I applied it correctly and had it cleaned and everything. I ended up having to get a new roof. The roof guy that sprayed it on said most of his new roofs have eternabond on them
