Caulk residue
I am replacing the outdoor white/yellowed speakers with black speakers. I removed the caulk surrounding the old speakers, but there is residue remaining.
I am looking for suggestions on what product to use to remove the residue, and not damage the trailer outside wall.

I generally use a razor blade to gently remove as much as possible and the Isopropyl alcohol to remove the remainder.

I bought a round rubber eraser thingy that fits in my cordless drill. I bought it at a auto parts store that carries some auto body repair stuff. I think it was made for removing decals and pin stripes from vehicles.

I’ve used acetone on old silicone caulk on our sailboat. However I’d try it in an inconspicuous area first, to make sure it doesn’t hurt the fiberglass.

Thank you for the input.
What is the best clear caulk to use for sealing around the speakers? I will also use the same caulk around the outside areas (windows, lights lenses, etc.).

I’ve used Geocel Proflex RV. Very happy with it. Tape it off with blue painter’s tape to get clean edges.

X2, I have used the 3M Stripe Off Wheel, and they basically do the rubbing for you! Start with a clean surface and go slow as they can build up heat.

I just did that yesterday using the same product. Today it's still a bit sticky and not fully dry. How long does it take for the Proflex to dry.
Also I waited until this morning to remove the tape and the Proflex in some places came off with the tape. Did you remove the tape right after applying the Proflex or wait like I did?
A bit disappointed in the results.

Sorry to hear. I found out the hard way not to wait too long to pull the tape. The stuff sets up fairly quick and our weather is always warm, which makes it set even quicker. I pulled the tape shortly after finishing a particular section — maybe 15-20 minutes?
It seems like it always stays flexible, even a long time later, which I like. It should be pretty cured in a day or so from what I’ve experienced.

That was my mistake I think. I do that when painting to keep the dried paint from lifting up. I have one more window to do so I'll remove the tape after 15 minutes and see how that goes.
Thanks for the quick reply....

You bet. I did the same as you, waiting as I did with paint. Someone on the forum mentioned pulling it up sooner, but it was after I learned the hard way. The stuff definitely is sticky. I found soapy water or mineral spirits works good for smoothing.

I use OSI Quad and a dab of spit on a fingertip to smooth it. Works well, but the open tube of caulk does not keep. I've tried all manner of ways to keep an open tube from drying out, but it pretty much only has a few days of useful life. Hate having to buy a tube and then only able to use a small portion of it.
