Countertop choice

Hello,

I have recently started some renovations and I would like to know what material you would use for your counter surface.

I saw that high-pressure laminate was long-lasting and was manufactured using a rigorous process that ensured a minimum of carbon capture. What do you think? Laminate? Marble? Wood?

Our 5th came with an engineered countertop that was manufactured by LG and I think may be quartz. I was excited since we have quartz at the S&B that we bought from Home D and it’s been bullet-proof. However the LG product is not as durable and I’ve managed to put several scratches in it. After 7 - 8 years the home counter still looks like new.

Nope it's actually a plastic composite. There are directions on their website for removing scratches from Hy-Mac.

LG does make Quartz and Solid Surface... Quartz does not scratch, what you have is Solid Surface and it's easily renewed. Solid Surface is much lighter but is an acrylic product with ATH filler added.. Great product and you can do a lot of design techniques with it, but, yes it can scratch much easier than Quartz, which is a polyester product with natural Quartz particulate but much less polyester resin is used, hence it's a stronger harder product.

Google renewing solid surface, some brand names are Corian, Avonite, Staron, etc etc etc. all are basically the same.

Good Luck.. PM me if you don't find what you need, I did solid surfacing since the early 70's and later in my working life I taught Solid Surface fabrication and certified fabricators.
