Darco Tears - Bottom face of Slide Out - Fasteners in Carpet?
Greetings!
My wife and I purchased a 2016 Jayco Jay Flight SLX 267 BHSW in June. We have had it out for two trips so far, including moving the slide in/out twice. My guess is the slide has been actuated between 6-10 times, including at the dealer and manufacturing plants.
While inspecting under the slide to determine how I want to handle the infamous Darco penetrations/water wicking issue on the perimeter, I discovered tears in the Darco.
You can see the tears in the picture running parallel to the direction of travel of the slide. While walking inside of the trailer, I have noticed that the fixed carpet in front of the couch and dinette has a series of staples (or maybe nails) which are not properly seated all of the way into the carpet. Net, there are sharp objects sticking out of the carpet which remain in a fixed position while the slide actuates.
My theory is that the fasteners are tearing the Darco. I would rather fix this myself, so I have ordered a roll of Flex Mend repair tape. Plan is to re-seat all of the fasteners and then apply the tape.
Has anyone experienced this issue? Alternate recommendations on how to repair?
We are also seeing an issue with the rear power awning motor 'hopping', which I assume is an alignment issue between the motor and the awning shaft. More to come on this issue. Otherwise happy campers!
