Yes Dicor you can use WD40 or Varsol to smooth out the finish. Best way have your tip small and install a small bead of material have a study flow (max 24"), Then dip the finger in Varsol and smooth out the dicor. For silicone just use a wet finger (water). Don't use gasoline on Silicone as this dissolves silicone.

I was about to post a similar question about sealant...I need to re-seal the fixtures on the outside of my TT. Am I correct in understanding that I can just go over the factory sealant with new OSI QUAD sealant? My Jayco dealership recommended silicone caulk which didn't sound right to me.

Silicone doesn't works well with UV and fails prematurely.
To do a good job: always remove fixtures clean properly and install butyl tape and re-install fixture. A beat around it is just an extra precaution of defense.

My opinion: if you do the job right, you only have to do it once.

My camper is 4 years old and the only evidence that it needs attention is the bead of sealant around the fixtures is cracking. Should I assume the butyl tape on the fixtures needs to be re-done based on this?

Some are happy with just a thin bead around the fixture (most RV shops do), I want things to last as my time is also valuable.

I use Geocel ProFlex everywhere but the rubber roof. Love the stuff. It’s so easy to work with. Apply, wet your finger with soapy water, smooth it out. Done.

Home Depot sells very effective caps for sealant tubes. My tubes of Geocel ProFlex and Dicor Self-leveling caulk last for years.

I use Quad Max (Lepage's brand here in Canada, but same OSI company) but my RV Repair shop swears by ProFlex. I have both on my TT right now and they seem to perform equally well so far. Probably be 5 years before I notice a difference, by which time I probably won't remember which bead was which.

If I open I tube I can always find enough other areas that are looking questionable enough to finish the tube off. No harm in adding a little more. I've been caulking most of the corner mouldings that Jayco applies with tape, that will take a couple of more tubes to finish up.
