Discount Tire Direct Tire Warranty
Has anyone purchased tires from Discount Tire Direct and also purchased their replacement guarantee?
I'm about to pull the trigger on a new set of Maxxis tires and they are offering a replacement warranty which seems to be pretty liberal. It will be an additional $15.50 per tire and states that if the tire is defective OR fails due to damage it will be replaced for free.
Seems like a case of "If it sounds to good to be true" to me...
"In the event one or more of your tires fail due to defect, or incurs damage that cannot be repaired, Discount Tire Direct will replace it absolutely FREE, (this includes freight to you). Regardless of the number of miles you put on the tires, you will be covered for the life of the original tread down to 3/32" remaining, or 3 years from the date of purchase. We have been offering this warranty for over 30 years. This Certificate for Refund or Replacement is unbeatable in the tire industry"!
What does the Certificate for Refund or Replacement not cover?- Abnormal tire wear. Reasons for abnormal wear include a vehicle being out of alignment, suspension problems or improper tire inflation.
- Damage caused by collision, vandalism, or willful abuse.
- "Cupping" due to lack of rotation. Tires should be rotated every 5,000 to 7,000 miles.
- Tire(s) worn past the wear bar.
- Labor in regards to mounting, balancing or bolting on of new tire(s)

I have used Discount tire (I think the Direct is just the mail order version) for over 20 years. Solid company and stands by what they say.

I always pay for the road hazard coverage on my truck tires from Firestone.
On the rv, I don't know if they would be covered because they often don't wear out before they age out.
I worry more about damage to the rv in case of a blowout. Goodyear is the only company that has ever reimbursed me for that and I did not have to pay extra.
Just thru the nose up front!

I've used their warranty and purchased tires from them for several vehicles. I would not purchase tires for my RV from them. Not because the service is bad or that the warranty is bogus. But simply that my RV is not going to get a flat in a convenient location any where near a Discount Tire location and even if it did they are not likely going to have the tire sitting there in stock. It's kind of a crapshoot with the situation your put in with an RV.
What I did not like: The replacement certificates were added to my purchase without giving me the option to decline. In the case of a defective tire, your manufacturers warranty is nearly as good a the Replacement Certificate your purchasing and in many times it is simply redundant coverage. However they do a great job at marketing their product and it serves primarily as a customer retention device.
With that said, I think your in nearly the same situation with any tire dealer with respect to the urgency created with a RV and being on a trip when things happen. So if the price is right and you realize you may be miles away and not be able to use the "warranty" Id' say Discount is as good as anybody.
They want you to be happy, they know your going to be buying tires the rest of your driving life and they want you to come to them.

I have bought 8 tires from them this year. I haven't bought the additional protection because if I blow a tire, I'm going to replace it NOW!! No matter how good the service, its going to take time to deal with a replacement policy. The one thing that I really like about them is that none of the tires that I have bought have had a build date longer then 3 months from when I received them. In my mind, they are a top notch company that delivers exactly what they say!!

They offered it to me this spring. I declined. I think my Carlisle's where about $100 each, I figured it was not worth it, for all issues. They are still covered for manufacturing defects anf your noreal prorated issues.

While I haven't bought from the online Discount Tire, I have bought numerous sets from Discount Tire over the years. Usually add the tire certs most times.
Will be looking into a set of tires for the HD this fall. I don't think the discount is as good the last few years, I have bought tires during the Black Friday Sale and saved even more.

I love Discount Tire. Bought the road hazard and it paid for itself the first big trip we went on. Had something caught between the rear passenger duals and they replaced both tires no questions asked. Told me that whatever was caught between them could have caused both tires to blow.
I go to them before every trip to have the pressure checked. They do it with a smile.

I've been buying from Discount for many years and they have always stood by their product. Last summer we had a blow out in Des Moines, Iowa and when I stopped by the local Discount tire I was surprised to find out they wouldn't cover the repairs under warranty. It turned out the Discount tire in Iowa was not affiliated with the Discount tire stores in the West, I live in California. Something to keep in mind but I still buy all my tires from Discount.
