E450 Dash Air Condition Issue

This is more of a Ford question than a Jayco question, but in our travels today we found that our dash air conditioning (AC) seems to freeze up after an hour where little air flow comes out of vents. When the fan is turned to high you can hear it blowing somewhere but not through the vents. AC fittings inside of engine are frosted over and not sure if that is normal or a contributing factor. If we turn the setting to Vent from AC then in about 2-3 minutes the air flow returns to normal. At this point we turn on the AC and all is Ok for another hour or so. We are on day 1 of a 17 day outing. No big issue, but want to see if an issue that can easily be remedied on the trip or awaits a Ford garage appt when we are back home. We have a 2015 E450 Greyhawk.

If your E-450 is like most Fords, it is set up to cut off the AC if the engine starts to get too warm. Once the engine gets cooled enough, the AC will kick on again. Check your Owner's Manual to verify.

Not saying you do not have a problem but it may be normal operation.

Back in the day, we had a Mercury Cougar that spit ice chunks at us through the vents.
Turn the diverter to blow from dash and floor at the same time.
It seemed to help in 1980.

we have a similar issue. Air conditioning blowers seems to shut down if going up hill. If I let up on the gas, the air conditioning blowers come back on. Have taken in the RV twice for service trying to determine if there is a clutch or something that kicks in, but mechanic is stumped. Does anyone have similar issues and what did you do to remedy? thanks daniel

The AC uses the engine vacuum to control and activate the flaps and doors in the AC system. When you are going uphill or accelerating hard the engine loses vacuum so the flaps and doors don't work right. It is a Ford problem, and I have seen a fix for it involving a separate vacuum line but I do not remember where.
