Angry Electric Awning problem

I purchased a brand new 2013 32RLDS from my local dealership last year. I started having issues with the electric awning arm "popping" when you roll it out. Since I have a 2 yr warranty, I took it back to the service dept in Dec of last yr. They called me mid Jan and said they replaced a strut on the awning arm and it was fixed. When I arrived, I checked the awning and it still "popped" ! I told the service manger it still had a problem and he told me they would go ahead and replace the whole arm. End of Feb they said it was again fixed. I arrive again, and the awning arm STILL "popped " The service manager was gone for the day and I am fit to be tied after they have had my trailer for over 2 months. I went and talked to the manager over the entire dealership, he had a rotten attitude toward me and said he doesn't have anything to do with the service dept. and walked away. I have made 3 payments on something I havent had. I requested compensation of at least 1 payment and they basically laughed at me.
This is the 3rd RV I've bought from them and they have never treated me this way before. Their service dept is something to be desired. What can I do next before the warranty runs out ?

our electric awning has a pop to it. After it rolls out a few feet, it kind of jolts out and makes a popping type sound. We were told this is normal for the electric awnings. I don't know any better....

Mine does the same thing. I figured it was just the gas shock releasing some energy and thats what its supposed to do.

OK there may be a difference between electric awnings for TT's versus Class C....but i have never had a "popping" noise or hesitation in the deployment of my awning. Probably won't help solve the problem, but wanted to share my experience.

I've had 3 different TT {Forest River, Heartland, and now Jayco} and each one had an electric awning, never had a popping sound as it opened or closed.

Me either. Could one of the gas struts be sticking? If the dealer is not addressing it, I would call Jayco. This does not seem like something to wait for months to resolve but I have a great dealer.

This is where a small video might be helpful so we can all chime in.

Ours pops too. 2014 Jayco Jay Flight 281BHS. Probably normal for certain models of awning.

Thanks for all your replies. I contacted the service manager today and told him they better fix it right this time or I was escalating this issue to Jayco.

Well ours had popped since it was new but the guy that was doing my walk through was showing it to me and when he went to shut it from inside the trailer the first time my grab bar was facing the door and the awning bar caught it and popped .... I said that didn't sound good and when we looked it had split the arm where it pivots on the pin... I lived with it all season until they could get me a new arm and just had to help guide it back in when it got close to being closed to the outer bar intersecting the fixed bar. ... It is in right now for that and a few other warranty issues so I guess I will see what it does when I get it back .... Could the pop you here be the material sticking to itself for a moment and then a pop when it releases? My old manual one would pop when it started rolling out when the material released after being rolled up for a while .... Just a thought

The gas shocks need to have their shaft cleaned periodically. They always go out to the same spot when you extend the awning and crud builds up on the shaft. I wipe mine down with a paper towel and WD40. It cleans the shaft at that stop point and eliminates the popping, at least until it needs it again.

Mine did pop, here's how I fixed it. I put a lite coat of slick50 on the rod of the gas shock and I've never had it to do it again. I had to do this on the last two trailers that I owned.

It is an easy fix. I expect your dealer did a lot more than what was need to be done. Ours did that too, after about a year of use. Now as part of my annual maintenance, I clean the slides mechanism and spray on a good coating of silicone. Runs really smoothly now. I have never put any silicone on the gas struts.

The "popping" is most likely the struts sticking. Silicone spray is what I use on mine to keep them from doing this. If it gets so bad that there is a rust ring on the base of the shock you should replace both. Carefree's are harder to replace due to the way they are mounted to the arms with rivets. The new Dometic are much easier to DIY replace since they bolt in.

One unit had it so bad I bent the arms upon retracting it. Spray some on a rag and wipe them both down then retract and extend and repeat 3-4 times to work it all the way in. This should eliminate the problem.

Also if you have adjustble arms make sure they are equal and all tension is off.

The only other popping you could be hearing is upon retraction if the arms and base have falling out of square and they are not seating correctly.

Agree popping is an issue and not the norm.

If this is the "pop" you're describing, mine does it as well...
