Eternabond Tape

I plan on applying Eternabond Tape on all the critical seams on my TT roof in a couple of weeks as a measure of preventive maintenance.

I clean my roof twice per season. It is holding up very well in the six years of use. It sits outside uncovered in winter.

I really don’t want to remove the existing caulking as it still looks good, no cracks etc. I was planning to clean the caulk and seams with denatured alcohol before applying the tape.

What say you? Thanks!

Exactly the process I used, only with acetone I never removed the old Dicor.

I would probably use the actual Eternabond cleaner and prep stuff. Should say "I will" as I plan to do the same thing in the near future.

My plan is to go right over the existing Dicor. Partly because I don't want to be up on the roof that long futzing around with removing all the old stuff, and partly because I figure 2 seals are better than 1...

I all reality your just paying a premium for acetone and a couple other solvents.

PROPRIETARY FORMULA: EternaClean Spray is formulated with a proprietary mixture of hot solvents, designed to "open" single-ply roof membranes and metals.

They list acetone and denatured alcohol as acceptable cleaners.

Just try to keep it off the roof membrane.

I used the Eternabond cleaner to clean the Dicor and then applied the tape over the existing caulk. I started out spraying the cleaner on a rag and applying that to clean the caulk. That got old real quick so I ended up just spraying the caulk and I did get some on the roof but wiped it up quickly. That stuff almost flash dries so I really wasn't to worried about it. 7 years later and I haven't had to do a thing to it. I did do all the edges of the tape with self leveling Dicor.

Gentlemen, I have a few Dicor spots that are fairly lumpy — not real flat. Did you level any of those out, or shave down the ridges, to get a better bond from the E-bond? Thanks!

I never did since the tape will form to the irregularities. Just be sure you press it down good. I always used a wallpaper seam roller.

I recently discovered the Eternabond Plus tape. Its supposed to be thicker for applications that require more of the goop I presume. Might be a good thing for those of us w/ the textured fiberglass roofs.

I applied eternabond to my roof maybe 5 years ago. All I did was wash it really well, rinsed it, let it dry. Then applied the tape right over the existing caulk. I did not use any primers. It has held up extremely well. Not sure a primer is really needed.

One key tip, do NOT stretch it when you apply it, or it will release. 1st week of ownership of this TT, I nicked the edge of my roof, and had about a 1" tear. I applied eternabond over the top and down the edge. I pulled on it just a little bit to ensure I got a good contour around the edge. Next day, the entire area that I stretched just that little was fully released. Replaced it, with more of a slap it on technique and it has been there for now 9 years, again no priming.
