Flat Tire

Well, it finally happen. Got my first flat tire in about 25 years. Looks like I picked up a nail not far from home after the last trip.

At least I was at home. Start to finish, under an hour, including a trip to Discount Tire. They did not even charge me.

That's not bad at all. The last one I got on a trailer was exactly a mile from my house. But, it shredded so bad, I still had to change it along the road.

I had 3 in the first 3 trips with my RV.
First was with the tire(s) that were on it when I bought it.
Second and third picked up debris during the drive.

I've only had two flats on vehicles in 25 years of driving though. Hope I didn't just jinx myself!

This is great. Is there a way you can ask the trailer gods to extend your luck to all of us. I just pulled a nail out of my tire a few days ago, thankfully it only punctured the outer bead and didn't hit the pressure vessel area.

Wow! You all are very lucky. I am new to the RVing world and, as usual for me, I learn the hard way. Bought a 2006 Grey hawk from a local dealer here in NY. First trip to Montana blew the inside rear duel tire and took out storage compartments for and aft of the wheel well. The tire shop in South Dakota said the tires were old 2005 and that was the reason for the blow out. Replaced 4 (rear insides and front). They said the outer 2 rears looked OK so I left them and the spare. Third trip we just returned from New Orleans and again in Mississippi blew out he outside rear and again destroyed my repaired storage compartment. Three more new tires. Mechanic said we had a bent rim and that was probably the cause. Can't wait to see what the next trip holds - always and adventure.

Not having to change a flat yet myself. How do you raise the 5’er to change the tire? Do you all carry a heavy enough jack to do the job or use the leveling jacks?

You certainly can but the odds are against you not having to change the tire on the side of the road... my life is worth more than $600 bucks every 4 years... and all the damage that occurs when one blows out at 70mph.. even 65 mph...
