Fresh water sanitation

Hi all!
Wondering what type of bleach people use for sanitizing their fresh water tanks and lines, or if there is already a thread on this, can someone please direct me in the correct direction?
Any tips on the process are welcome too! Still very new at this...

Just plain ol regular household bleach. I use 1/2 cup in a couple of gallons of water for my 33 gallon tank and 6 gallon water heater. Suck the bleach solution into the tank, fill up the tank, then run the pump to fill the water heater and other lines. Let set for a couple of hours, then flush a couple of times to get the chlorine out.

Are we talking like Clorox bleach?

Yes. Clorox is fine. I use the no name cheap stuff myself.

Yes, Clorox, or any other brand of bleach works. The details of how to sanitize are spelled out in your owner's manual as well. Good luck!

Just be careful that it is pure bleach. Some laundry bleaches have additional chemical additives that may stay behind in the system after flushing. In this case, no name brands may actually be better.


ETA: I use iosan which is a sanitizer used in the farm industry for milking equipment. A little easier to use, and the iodine base is less dangerous if traces are left behind. I actually purchase mine at a local wine making store - they use it for equipment sanitation too.

Plain Jane household bleach is all I use. I do not recommend adding any extra, as it makes getting out the residual harder. I put it in at night, I run the solution 8on through the lines for a short time to ensure everything has the solution in it. Refill the tank until water is coming out the overflow. Then I let it sit overnight.

I found on my tt. I can make a bleach solution in a 5 gallon bucket. Bring it into my tt, and use the antifreeze pickup to transfer the solution into my tank, via the outside shower. If I remove the shower head the hose slips down into the gravity fill port. Really helps eliminating any spills.

Plain unscented bleach.

I use a sanitising solution that I use for my homebrew beer bottles.
