Freshwater Drain Housing

I have an ‘06 Jay Feather with a broken fresh water drain.

I bought a new drain to match old one and during installation I had to remove this housing pan it’s attached to.

Is this housing pan necessary? Or can I just install a ball style valve on the line and let it hang just like the hot and cold water drains?

That pan really is not necessary. Looks like you might have an enclosed underbelly, so it just helps keep the water,/mice out. But it is not necessary.

My valve is supported by a small piece of lightweight angle iron. Personally, I would buy a 1/4 turn, 1/2" valve from the local DIY store and make a bracket. There was a discussion on this early this spring.

I also just replaced mine with a ball valve. Since I had the time I actually build a PVC enclosure for the ball valve since I needed some way to fasten it to the frame. This is not necessary, I just thought it would be fun to create the PVC enclosure by using a heat gun to shape some of the PVC.
