I would attend to it ASAP before any moisture gets behind the 'back' of the exposed metal gutter rail and compromises the roof/wall structure. Gutter joints are seldom perfect, but shouldn't 'separate' as your photo shows.
The awning fabric attaches to the same metal gutter rail and does apply some degree of load...., but the issue may be a loose and/or missing mounting screw.
But as you stated, close inspection is required.
I check my gutter rails annually when I inspect my roof caulking joints and seams.
