Help Identifying Pluming Fitting

This fitting is from the inlet of the water heater on our 2022 242BHSW. It was installed in such a way that it was supporting the weight of the water heater....so naturally it broke off.

Is anyone able to help me identify what it is? It looks like a 1/2" NPT to NPSM adapter, but I haven't seen one with the gasket that fits inside the end of the fitting like that before.

Check valve. Replace it wth the brass version. (EDIT) Do the top one too while you're at it.

Here's another version:

I would replace with a 1/2 “ x close or 1/2 “x 1-1/2” brass nipple.

I feel like an idiot for not looking inside the fitting and it clearly being a check valve. Given the brass don’t have the gasket I guess it’s just a standard flat rubber gasket needed?

Thank you for the quick help!

Edit: saw your second link. That’s the one!

Grumpy pointed out I was looking at a check valve. Not enough coffee this morning.

As others said, change it to brass. There is one other thing, the check valve shouldn't be supporting the weight of the water heater.

Yes, support the water heater, then add the plumbing.
