Hot water heater sounds like a hive of bee's

On my 07 jayco 314bhds when the hot water heater is on electric and it's been sitting for a while the hot water heater sounds like a bunch of bees going crazy. If you turn off the electric to it the noise stops. Is my heating element going out? Thanks

Of course, one never really knows for sure, but I don't think your water heater is getting ready to quit on you. When mine starts "whining", I turn the electric heater off, let the water cool down a bit, turn off the water pump, then remove the drain plug from the water heater to drain it. It will drain faster if you open the pressure relief valve and/or the hot water side of one of your faucets to allow air in to displace the water. After it's drained, turn the pump back on to flush some water through the tank. You'll be amazed at all the gunk that flushes out of the water heater!

Once it's drained, replace the plug and close the pressure relief valve, but leave the hot water faucet open. Turn your pump back on and allow the tank you completely refill before turning the electric heater back on. You'll also be amazed at how much quieter your water heater runs on electric.

I'm a full-timer, so my water heater gets used a lot more than the average users'. I flush mine out about every 6 months or so.

Hope that helps.
