I have to agree with Norty on this. This being only our 2 year with the trailer we have found 250-300 miles is enough and it leaves us time for enjoying the sites and not feeling rushed.

The longest I towed our TT was 13-14 hours, the last 3 hours were brutal because I couldn't get my friend to drive.
The DW won't ride for over 6 hours and again it's only me driving
Would prefer to do more in a day but the aggravation from DW doesn't make it worth it!!

How far do you tow in a day?

Going to BigBen at Xmas time from Houston and I will be breaking it up to make it a 2 day trip. I like to arrive at a park before dark, and have had times when I planned a long day driving, then got a flat and the day got longer and I arrived late and dead tired. So I now try to keep it to ~300 miles a day.

Depends on the purpose of the trip. If it's all about the destination then we routinely do 650+ per day and just sleep for a few hours at a rest area. Other times we might only do 250-300 in a day with numerous stops to see things. It's just the DW and myself - no pets as none of the cats seem the least bit interested in going for any kind of a ride (and I have the scratches to prove it...). If we had kids and/or pets along that would certainly influence how far in a day and how long between stops.

I met a guy on the road this summer that had a "2-2-2 rule". He would drive no more than 200 miles and stop by 2:00 pm. If he broke one of those rules he had to stay for 2 days. He didn't to get too far each day but did seem to enjoy the journey.

We now try to be stopped and set up by 4:00 pm. 300 seems to be out magic number. I used to enjoy the long driving days but as time goes by the 2-2-2 sounds better to me.

Great topic. My longest haul was 205 miles to Asheville a couple of weeks ago. Although I was a little anxious about towing through the mountains, the distance seemed very manageable. On the way home, it was a breeze as my comfort level quickly rose with mountain towing. I feel like I could easily cover 400-500 or so miles in a stretch without being too fatigued. Sounds like I need to plan a trip now to test that theory...

Yet another for the 300 give or take and off the road by late afternoon group.

The DW won't drive the truck even without the trailer unless there was no other choice so 6 hours drive time with stops approx. every 2 hours for the fur baby, my back and fuel (gas truck) is about all I want to do to ensure I don't burn myself out the first day, have daylight to settle in as well as having time to wind down and prepare for the next day's travels.

The most I've ever done while towing is 780 miles coming back to N. TX from FL...I don't recommend it and I swore to the DW that I'd never do it again! My max is now about 525 miles or less. Just depends on where we are going and what we want to see along the way. Have fun and enjoy the ride!

The most I've done in a single leg with the camper is 450 miles. I can comfortably go further, maybe another few hours / 150 miles, but I'd definitely face mutiny by DW and the kids.

As others have said, it comes down to your comfort really, which can be affected by the weather, flat lands vs mountains, time of day, traffic, # of gallons of coffee readily available, etc.

^ This.

DW gets 'antsy' riding for more than six hours, even with stops. Plus our fuel range is about 325 miles before needing a fill up, and my butt has about a 300 mile cushion.

The most I have ever done in one day is 350 miles, and that is a long day.

We don't do over 55, have a cat and kids, have to stop for lunch, breaks, etc.

A "good" day for us is 250 - 300.

I am amazed at some of the distances I am reading here. I could not do that in a car.

I have found over this past year that about 350 miles is a good distance for me. Tow at 60 mph with stops about every 2 hours for gas and potty break for DW. Leave early and stop mid-afternoon, relax and hit it early the next day.

We used to do 400-500 but not any longer, just finished a 6K mile trip the the gulf coast and never did more than 300 in a day, sometimes only 200-250. It was really nice to leave late, drive 5 hours, and get in early, less stress, less hassle. So 3 at 3 is my new motto, 300 miles or 3 o'clock, which ever comes first. It does help that we are both retired and don't have a schedule to keep.

I try to do about 300 +/- per day. That makes for roughly a 6 hour day, if averaging 50 mph.

That's enough for me. But I'm older now, and retired so I have the luxury of shortening the miles driven in a day.

When we had limited time we'd travel at least 500mi a day with normal being closer to 600mi.

Now days we might go 300. We get up, have breakfast, start getting things ready. Leave around 9am. Go until mid afternoon and stop. Every now and then we will stop for two or three days before we take off again.

Traveling when retired is nice. Being full timers is even better

I think I met the same couple. They are full timers from MN originally.
