How To Fix Leak Behind Toilet

The supply line to my toilet coming out of the floor has a small leak where it connects to the line that screws in to the back of the toilet.

I'm told that the line coming out of the floor is "pex." I don't think line up to the toilet is pex, however. any ideas on what might work to fix this?

You are right, it's pex, 1/2". I had to fix a leak in my toilet flush valve so had to deal with what you are faced with. I upgraded to a better toilet and wanted to install a quarter turn shutoff valve in case we were ever out and toilet leaked again.
You can use "sharkbite" fittings with pex. They push on and don't require a crimp tool. You may want to do the same, get a valve to extend the rigid pex up, then reattach the flex hose.

I heard about the "shark" fitting to go over the pex, what might I do with the other side? Do they make a shark fitting on one end with a barbed fitting on the other? I really just want to "make nice" with the pex end since it's such a short stub coming out of the floor.

A little snooping brought me to this:

Click Seal® Toilet Connector - SharkBite

Yes they do, may have to look around, I believe many Ace Hardware carry them. Or as suggested, get a sharkbite valve with standard 3/8" threads on the other end, then use a standard toilet hose.

Good Luck.

That line from the floor is a standard 1/2 in. PEX. The line to the potty is a std household Toilet fitting. You can buy the 1/2 crimp to 3/8 threaded fitting at any home store with a plumbing department.. I made one crimp and used a armored flex hose from there to the toilet. As others stated, I also added a 1/4 turn valve in between.

All this can be done in short order with one crimp fitting or a shark bite fitting and the armored hose.

I don't know why it was that way if new.
