How To Repair this Small Crack?

We have just noticed this small crack in our 2014 Redhawk 29xs. We bought it used about a month ago, and didn't notice this at that time--but it is possible that we overlooked it :face palm:

It's on the passenger side, right where the overhead area starts and is about 2" long. (see photos) It doesn't seem terribly deep, but my husband says it is definitely NOT just in the Gel Coat.

I'm sure hoping this isn't a serious problem!

Any suggestions on how to repair? Or should we take it to a professional? My husband is quite handy--but we want to make sure we are using the right materials, etc, and not making the problem worse!

Thanks for any advice (and reassurance!)

PS: Both photos posted sideways! They both should be rotated - the crack runs "up and down"--not sideways! Sorry

Boat repair fiberglass kit. Drill a small hole at end of the crack to stop it and repair.

Interesting! I noticed the same thing on my driver's side. So I went and looked at my passenger side after you posted. Sure enough, some small cracking there also. I sealed the driver's side with Geocell Proflex multipurpose sealer. Grumpy is spot on with his suggestion of drilling a tiny hole to deter further migration of the cracking. Cracks are very small, about 1", but need to be tended to.

Picture of Driver's side cracks

Here's the pics of the driver's side separation and cracks. I see this one posted sideways also.

Can't tell you how to fixit. But absolutely drill the little hole. That will stop the crack from growing. I had a small crack my dealer found while my htt was on for other work. They brought it o to a repair center, they fixed under warranty and you cannot see it.

Some dealerships on purchasing a used rv will give a 30 to 60 day warranty.

What I do see is the need to recaulk. Water is you enemy in any rv.

Thanks for the advice-it's very much appreciated!

Yes, we plan on checking and repairing all the caulking, as well as dealing with this small crack.

Is it advised to completely remove all the caulking and start new? That seems like an overwhelming job! We thought we'd just clean the areas that need it with acetone (very carefully-just the caulking that is cracked) and used a non silicone caulk to fill in those areas. Does this sound logical?

We are not total newbies, as we had an RV about 16 years ago. It was a 93 Fleetwood 27'-and it was built like a tank! Seems like it wasMUCH more solid than our current rig.

Thanks again, you are all so helpful!

Clean up any loose or degraded caulk. Acetone is nice, but do not get it on the roofing membrane. I scrub the area with soap and water, dry it. I use self leveling Decor on the roof. On the walls I use another product, but don't recall the name, it's really sticky stuff.

Thanks Jargiven-that's what we were thinking!

It's not on the roof (although we will be checking that closely also), but on the side just under the cab over part-behind the top of the door.

I use "ISO Quad" on the walls. It is sticky stuff. be careful using it, put very little on and work it with your figure, but make sure to use soapy water. Cut just a small opening on the end of the tube. It does not clean up as easily as regular caulk.

I like to use painters tape along side of my working area, it gives me a clean sharp edge and if I make a mess it is on the tape and not all over the RV.
