Is the dealer applied roof sealant worth the cost?

I would think that this application would have been done at the factory if it were important. This is my first travel trailer.

Initially the dealer, Camping World of Denver, wanted about $2K to apply the sealant inside and out. They finally came down to $1200 but seem eager to put it on.

Is this just a scam or a worthwhile addition? Is this something that I could do myself? Would it affect the warranty?

Thanks,

Kurt

Complete and total scam. Ask them what they are applying. Ask them why they are applying it INSIDE your camper too. Ask them how long it extends your warranty on the roof, or how long it extends the life of your roof (I'd request written literature to back up their claims).

In my experience, the best thing you can do for your roof is to seal your roof to wall joints with Eternabond and keep it out of the sun as much as possible. Your roofing membrane will likely never fail, leaks occur at the caulk joints, not the rubber membrane. UV light degrades the roofing material over time, so the less direct sunlight it receives, the better.

All the unicorn and pixie dust in the world won't help.

I had this done to my TT because the money guy said it protects his roof from pine sap. After it was done, it left a wet silicone sheen on the outside. When I did the inspection, I asked the service guy how long the protection on the roof would last. His reply, "We do not treat roofs." Money guys want your money to up the overall price.

Of course they are eager to put it on... and put more of your $$ in their pocket.

What norty1 said, save your money for something else.

EDIT: Welcome to the forum.

The best thing you can do for your roof is to take a walk on it every few months with a tube of lap sealant and touch up any areas that look suspect and look for any small tears in the membrane.

Dealer Roof Sealant

I think the following quote was attributed to Phineas T. Barnum, "There is a sucker born every minute". Looks like C/W subscribes to that line of thinking. I guess they take every opportunity to" fleece the flock".

Good thing to pass on. By the way, don't ever let anyone apply Scotch Guard to your furniture. Any contact with it and it is absorbed through your skin. Pure poison. Same goes for flame retardant.
