29fls

Hello everyone, new member and new to travel trailer world.
Hoping get learn a lot from this forum your experiences and advise.

Planning to buy 29fls due to floor lay out and also to keep the total length below 35’ due to lot of parks restrictions on the above 35’.
I hope I should not have any issues about my tow vehicle as it is
2018 Ram 2500HD with 6.4 hemi, payload of 3450 and GVWR 10000 lbs, tow capacity of 12800 lbs. it is 4x2 with 8’ bed and wheel base of 169.
I hope with this vehicle I should not have any tow or sway issue as my trailer will be 8000lbs loaded and around 12% of tw. Also will be using proper weight distribution and proper sway bar.
I read lots of good and bad experiences on this web site for various Rv and various models. For this reason I am asking your assistant for pre inspection clues.
Will the dealer let me do my own preinspection for simple mechanical, water and some electrical issues on my own before I go with there tech person for final inspection
Lots of questions. Looking forward to your valuable advise.
Thanks a lot in advance
Mo

Hello and welcome to the forum.

If this is your first trailer, it appears you've done your homework!

Regarding your 'pre-inspection' question, that is between you and your dealer. In my opinion, for safety reasons it is likely your dealer won't allow you to do that unsupervised. BUT that is just my opinion.

There is a PREDELIVERY CHECKLIST on this site and it would be good to look it over and take it with you. Since you are new to RV trailers, check out the internet videos on the various systems to reduce the volume of new material and jargon that you'll encounter during the inspection.

A weight distributing hitch (WDH) is mandatory along with anti-sway. You didn't mention what a 'proper' WDH and anti-sway is. In my opinion, a proper WHD incorporates anti-sway as part of its design - not the add-on/removable friction sway control devices. You could search this site and find MANY discussions on WDH and anti-sway.

If you have questions, just ask. There are lots of helpful, friendly folks on this site.

Thanks for your advise. I will follow your suggestion and Look at videos. Actually I have been on YouTube for last few months checking various videos for various topics from maintenance and other trailer travel related issues and various warranties.
I did not asked all the questions as it was my first of hopefull many in future. Have looked at similar models by rockwood 2912ws and the sportsman stt302vrl. With similar weight and length. I am aware of all the items you mentioned regarding weight distribution hitch and sway bar.
Thanks again. Look forward to hear from you again.

My neighbor has the same truck, but short bed and 4x4. He tows a 28’ Which is about 33.5’ overall length. His trailer is similar to mine at about 8500 loaded. He has no issues and it tows great.

I asked dealer can I take the trailer on the road for May be 25 miles to do some shock and vibration before inspection. He said they are towed from Indiana not put on carriers, so they have been put through shock and vibration during transportation

New Jayco wareenties for 2020

Just noticed new Jayco warranties for 2020.
Adds lot more to existing warranties 3 years structural 6 year on tires five years on axles plus lots of other items.
Planning to pick up 30RLS next months. What are my options. Cancel the order and wait for 2020 models.
Calling Jayco customers service to see if they can offer this for new customers

Pulled the trigger on Saturday.
