We got the 5er back from the dealer yesterday after a full month of not having her. One of the things it was in for was the keyless key pad would not respond to any commands. The tech who was first assigned to it spent a couple of hours on it and just said he couldn't make it work. Yesterday they put one of their "more experienced" techs on it and he too said he couldn't make it work.
When I got home I decided to trouble shoot it myself and had it fixed in about 10 minutes. You would think that someone with "experience" in such things would first look for current, after all it is an electrical device. What I found was that the contact pad on the door frame was not passing current, I removed the pad and found a loose wire where it was crimped to the female blade connector. Re-crimped the wire and voila, current and a working keyless touch pad.
Now I have to figure out why it will only function to unlock and not to lock. A call to Dexter on Monday should point me in the right direction.
If you want something done right some times ya just gotta do it yourself.
