Light on 50 amp plug died

Good afternoon,

Does anyone know if it is easy to replace the green LED light in the 50 amp plug-in on the side of a 2021 357MDOK? It's not a big deal, but it was kind of a nice feature.

I assume this would technically be under warranty, but I've got bigger fish to fry.

Thanks!

It is not replaceable. You have to cut the plug end off and replace it. I have never noticed a lighted aftermarket 50 amp plug.

Sorry, I wasn't all that clear. The cable is fine and does not have a light. The receptacle on the trailer has a green light in its cover. It's supposed to illuminate when there is 120v AC, and used to. But recently it seems to have died.

I have never seen that type but the receptacle may have to be replaced to make it like it was. There should be a mfg. name that would lead you to some more info.

My Furrion receptical has a blue light like that and yes it is kind of handy. Most likely have to replace it.

I suspect it is a gimmick that is not very dependable and would not waste $54 to fix it only to have the new one fail. I admit it is reassuring and convenient to see it light up but it is something we never had before and got along just fine without. Ours went out quickly after purchase.

I recently purchased this item from Ebay for the power cord and my home generator and what I purchased has a box with the same style inlet (but stripped on one of the lugs) as you have (gray not black though). In any case, I just checked to see if the bulb is easily removable \ replaceable as if so I would have been happy to take it out and send it to you. However, it is not easy to get to the bulb even with the connection in my hands as it is under the weatherstripping and then the wires to the bulb run through the hinge and underneath the larger lug connections where the main lugs are for the large wires that connect from the RV to the inlet. Seeing how mine is laying loose, I did take off even that cover (where the main cables connect) and saw some little screws where the bulb is wired which I suspect could easily come loose and perhaps why your light is not lighting. Those screws are tiny and connect to two blades of the connector.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/224671310234

If the light is important to you enough, I would consider just purchasing something like this for 30$ and remove the entire connector from the metal box and install it where your current inlet is located.

On the other hand and back to your question, it is not going to be easy or simple to change out only the bulb and what appears to be easiest (not necessarily easy though) is to change the entire inlet connection completely. Whether Jayco would warranty this, I am not sure. I have read reports here that they (Jayco) tends to state that the warranty for the items they install are warranted by that manufacture and not by Jayco, but I suspect there is some discretion depending on the RV dealer and not sure what they would say, wouldn't hurt to ask them though.

Mine has the blue light….sometimes. Never had a desire to to follow up on fixing it. Kind of like the light on my water pump switch. The risk vs reward of screwing something else up usually steers me away from these little things.

Okay, that's what I figured. It's 14 degrees outside here so I didn't want to mess with it. For $55, I'll live with the dead light bulb lol.

Thanks, everyone!

I recommend that you contact RecPro...
https://www.recpro.com/contact-us/
You never know, a lot of companies have great customer service and they just might send you a replacement, or would know how you could repair it yourself.

I agree. If it was a safety feature that indicated a good ground circuit or similar it may be worth it, but to only show that you have power is a no brainer. All you need to do is walk in the door.

True. I had been using it to make sure my 120v GFCI the camper is plugged into for the winter hadn't tripped. It did once but caught it before the 12v batteries drained. My 50amp Surge Guard EPS arrived today, so I can use that as a quick check going forward.

Go buy a non contact voltmeter for $13 from Amazon. You can use it for lots of other stuff like hot skin.

I put an LED nightlight on an extension cord in a window I can see from the house.

I've replaced my furrion receptacle (30amp) once already under warranty. The led on the cover can be removed and checked.
Mine was full of moisture and corroded.

The replacement lasted about 30 days and ended up the same way.
I gave up worrying about it after replacing it once.
If i find my old pics i sent to furrion for warranty i will post. If anyone needs a reference to take it apart.
If you look closely there is a red and white lead going into the cover.
I think water is getting in there and corroding the little circuit board on the back of the cover.

If you're a bit handy, you could add an LED telltale.

120 volts: https://www.amazon.com/Alpinetech-PL...a-739616930348

240 volts: https://www.amazon.com/Alpinetech-Me...a-890703775378

In the end, adding one of these may be just as easy as replacing the RV-mounted male receptacle.
