yes it should be quieter and stronger. Do they give you an estimate on how much weight you will be adding to your unit?

They did, but it wasn't that much and I don't remember. I'll try to remember to ask again tomorrow. I need to weigh it again anyway since I haven't done it in several years. I know I have a little more stuff I travel with now vs 5 years ago, but not too much. Once a year I clean out the basement just to vacuum it out and stuff that hasn't been used stays home.

Ed,

Is the complete removal of all the original rubber membrane standard? What about the additional luan decking they're putting on? Are those items something they do on each and every job, or is that specific to YOUR trailer? Because there was a known leak perhaps?

Man, that's going to be nice when they're done!

They don't take the old membrane off unless they see or suspect a leak and damage to the decking. I had several leak/suspect leak areas, but I was lucky none of it was more than minor. I'm sure glad I got this done when I did. Another wet spring and I would have a major major disaster. If they do have to replace a piece of luan they have to do the entire roof so it will be level, but it should look superior.

I have two more pictures taken a few minutes ago I will u/l right after this reply to you.

Progress as if 10:00am this morning. Getting closer to starting the spray process. Of course the preparation is much longer than the actual spray time. They are still shooting for it being ready for me to hook up and travel by noon tomorrow.

So if they have to luan the entire roof does the cost go up considerably over the initial quote?

The cost of the luan sheets and approx 4 hours labor. So it goes up a little.

Reading over your posts it sounds like they remove the existing luan and replace it rather than decking over it.
Quite a job but it sure sounds like you are getting something that will be just short of bullet-proof.
Your pic #2, have they sanded the paint/caulk from the aluminum trip next to the roof? Looks shiny.
Looking forward to the end results. Thanks for posting, Ed!

That's not what I read. I understood that they put the new luan right over the old to make the roof level.

I'd be disappointed if the rain noise went away. Love my HTT for just that reason.

Wish the wife would let me open windows at home when it rains. She likes the rain, but not the traffic noise.

Does anyone make a roll on similar to this that you can do yourself?

They don't remove the luan because it is bonded to the roof joists and insulation. It would be a disaster to try to remove it. They overlay it with new, paint the new overlay luan with a primer and then spray the roof on.

With the new piece of luan, the first layer of the roof material is 3/16" thick, then a color coat on top of that is 1/16" thick. The overall thickness of the new roof will be just a hair short of 1/4".

The corner flashing is roughed up so the roof material will stick better.

Correct. The old luan is bonded to the roof and would be almost impossible to get off.

I like rain on the roof sound too, but with hearing aids now there are times the TV is awfully hard to hear. A little reduction in rain noise would be ok with me.

Don't know. There is another company that does a roll on roof and it is a bit cheaper, but it goes on at room temperature. The spray on hits the roof at 200 degrees and bonds much much better.

One of the best investment I made is a cordless headset for listening to tv.

I have a blue tooth wireless that plugs into the audio output on the TV and is wireless direct to my hearing aids. I couldn't survive without it.

I agree on the "best investment".

Maybe something like this. Gets great reviews but looks like a royal PITA.

With my luck, I'd have that stuff ALL OVER the place! OTOH, the price is A LOT easier to swallow than what'll be on Ed's invoice for this job. OTOOH, you get what you pay for...

The rv flex armor roof weighs 0.5 pounds/sqft. So on my roof: 8' x 35' = 280 x 0.5 = 140 pounds. I can certainly live with that. I do have a luan overlay which add some, but still no problem in my mindm
