Need a reason to sanitize the fresh water system?

It was supposed to get below freezing a couple nights ago so I decided that I would dry winterize the Accolade. First I opened the low point drains, drained the hot water heater and opened the drain for the fresh water tank. When I went inside and started opening faucets to blow air through there was an awful smell. I do not know where General RV filled the water tank to do the PDI, but that water stunk.

Since we are going to take the coach on a shakedown this weekend I decided to do a good sanitizing of the fresh water system before we go.

So, I went out and sanitized the fresh water system in the coach today. There was a bit of a learning curve because the Nautilus P3 System is quite different than the Andersen Kantleak system that was on the Thor Challenger.

One thing the procedures told me to do was mix the solution and then use the water pump to siphon the solution into the water tank. After completing that then put clean water into a container and siphon it into the tank using the water pump. Repeat this until the water tank is full. For me that would be 19 5 gallons buckets. Instead I hooked up my water hose and power filled the tank.

I let the solution remain in the water lines and tank for 6 hours. When draining the tank I wanted to verify which tank my bathroom sink drained into so I turned on the water pump and opened the vanity faucets. That sink along with everything else beside the toilet dump into the grey tank. The toilet is the only fixture dumping into the black tank.

Tomorrow I will replace the whole house and fridge water filters. The whole house filter was never installed but the fridge filter was so it needs replacing.

After sanitizing and rinsing the system there is no more stink.

Why must there be a question? Is general info not allowed?

Hope you enjoy your new unit.
Thanks for the info.
I have a Keystone Cougar that the po had a dealer winterize for him in '08 and they charged him for 16 gallons of antifreeze at $12.00 a gallon and 8 years later when we bought it the antifreeze had turned bad rotten onion bad. I have tried to clean out the smell all to no avail. Even after a massive dose of 2 gallons of Clorox bleach and 36 gallons of water which we pumped through the system over a 2 week period of time. Then adding about 5 gallons of water every day until the bleach smell went away. No bleach but still the rotten onion smell. It doesn't matter if it's hooked to a hose or pumping out of the tank it stinks bad.

Personal experience information, that may be helpful to anyone reading it, is ALWAYS welcome here.
