Exclamation Need advice from a seasoned Jayco 28R RVer

It went to look at a 2009 Jayco 28R today. I took some pics underneath. Owners say there's has never been water damage but I looked underneath and saw all kinds of duct tape on the underbelly attaching it to the frame. The owners said they had no idea it was there???? I am a brand new RVer. I've never owned one ever before and I don't want to buy a lemon. Can anyone give me advice? I will try to attach pictures if I can figure out how.

Well, that statement alone I would walk away.

You could also have as you say a "seasoned" RV owner go through it as well if you know one.

That unit is almost at its life expectancy anyway being its going on 12 years old. It practically has no value. Unless you can get it really cheap and be willing to make repairs on it, I would not consider buying it.

in this case I would hire a professional RV inspector to look it over... It would be different if you owned one before and/or knew what types of issues this model may or may not have..

Look at the roof see if it is taken care of or not...

The duct tape looks like it's covering some voids in the coroplast underbelly on that side. Someone put it there, and it wasn't the factory. Is he the original owner? Has it been stored outside all it's life? Like curver900 said above, the roof is a big deal if it was never maintained yearly. Look for any sign of water stains on the ceiling and walls, and make sure there are no soft spots on the floor, anywhere.

There are some expensive appliances in it that are getting old. The refrigerator, air conditioner, furnace, and water heater. Tires, brakes, and wheel bearings are a consideration, too.

You didn't mention what he's asking for it. Too high of a price would make me walk away.

When we bought our first RV we bought used. We ended up buying someone else's headache. I was a mechanic at the time and had no problem fixing what was hidden from us but we decided from that point forward we would buy new. We've had some minor issues with new as well which I took care of myself because I have the ability. We just decided it was best for us to buy new.

Same happened to us! We were sold a trailer that had black mold un der the floor. Being 1st time RV buyers at the time, we didn't know what to look for.
Now, we just buy new.
