Need new pull bar for grey dump valve (2011 26BH)

Hello,

The pull bar for my grey tank is quite bent and is not very strong when trying to use it to open and close the grey tank valve. I want to replace it but am not sure how to. My local RV shop says I can just buy a new bar and you just spin the old one off and spin the new one on. The ones at the shop have threads inside the bar. My trailer has a metal cotter like pin in it and the ones at the shop do not have this or a hole to put a pin in. I'm wondering if it's just an extension piece and I can just untwist the whole bar off and replace with the new one. See image for a better idea of what mine looks like.

I was playing around under there today and took this picture. The whole bar, including the part with the pin seems to unscrew all as one but I don't want to take it off incorrectly and not be able to get it back on.

Going on a trip soon so would like to replace today if possible!

Please post the model and year of your RV in case there is a special situation involved.

Is you valve marked Valterra or Bladex? If it is, there is a standard replacement valve handle on Amazon and elsewhere. Maybe yours needed to be longer and they put an extension on it?

I would try to see if the old one unscrews and then order a replacement.

It is definently a different setup than mine. My rod has 1/4-20 threads. Yours might too.

But you should be able to remove the cotter pin. Go to your favorite DYI store. Buy a rod, determine where the cotter pin goes, and drill a hole. The other end?, not sure how it is connected from the image. Maybe a 1/4-20 die or the correct size for your rod diameter, and thread it for a handle.

I got a Valterra piece. I pulled the cotter pin out and the rod slid out...the little piece I was able to unscrew from the valve and then I screwed the new one into it. It wouldn’t go all the way on, there is a small gap but should be ok. See image for new one.
