New 28DSBH WATER LEAK

So I pressurized the water system in our brand new camper because we are going to go camping for the first time tomorrow. Ran everything once before while I was flushing everything with bleach BUT I had the water heater bypassed while doing this. Now with the water heater in the loop, I heard the water pump continue to cycle. Checked under the back bunks by the water and heater and found water all over the floor leaking from bottom of 1 of 2 fittings on the heater. Called the owner of the dealership that I bough it from. He said try to tighten it. If it breaks, he says it'll be under warranty. Sucks to tow it 100 miles though to have it fixed. Kinda feel like the dealer should have caught this during the PDI. I took it apart and it looks as if they (someone) smashed the gasket inside the fitting. Has anyone had any experience with these fittings?

My plastic tank fittings (Atwood aluminum tank) showed signs of a small "drip" leak this spring, so I removed them and put a fresh wrap of white plumber's tape on the threads and that seemed to have resolved the problem.

Do you have the Atwood or Suburban tank? If it's the Atwood tank don't replace the plastic fittings with metal fittings, the metal fittings will create corrosion in the thread connection on the aluminum tank.

Well I took it apart and let it sit for a while so that rubber seal could expand back to its original shape, also put a little heat on it with a hair dryer. Reassembled, pressurized, seems to be holding with no problems now. The seal seemed to only be compressed on one side of the fitting. So maybe it was just never tightened from the beginning.

Sounds like you have a keeper , and never tightened from the beginning is a strong possibility.

I would keep an eye on it until you get a couple heat/cool tank cycles behind you.
