New Jayco 2015 31DS

Well we have picked up our 31DS. It is a great looking motorhome.

First let me say we love it…….

Just a quick note what we found. I am a heavy service mechanic and spent the whole day under the unit and found that the wiring could have been done a cleaner. I found that all the butt splice connectors used to make all the connections were crimped but these are heat shrink connectors, and NONE OF THESE WHERE HEAT SHRINKED AND SEALED. I went ahead and sealed all the connectors.

Also found that a lot of the wiring was just hanging loose under the coach. So I went ahead and zip tied all wiring and taped up all harness so they will be a little more watertight. I also found that there was a main positive wire coming from the battery that was rubbing hard against battery box and would not take long to wear thru the insulation and cause a short or even worse a fire.

I think that a lot of this could have (And should have been) taking care of while the constriction was going on or at least during final inspection.

Also had some rust all over the frame rails. I cleaned and primed and painted them.

I have posted some pictures here

Ditto with our new 31 FK. Made the dealer do an on site service call to fix. In addition we found two hot wires under the steps that were not terminated --- and the tech had no clue why they were there! Really poor craftsmanship!

When doing the PDI on my new Eagle 284BHBE 3 weeks ago, I noticed some very sloppy wiring inside and out. I pointed out the issues to the tech and he did a little bit to make the wiring a little neater and tied up some.

I'm in the business of manufacturing electrical products. I will be adding a good amount of wire conduits, lots of tie-wraps and checking all crimp-on connectors and adding heat shrink tubing.

I rather do this stuff myself so I know it is done correctly.

Yes I noticed the same wires they were white & orange and just hanging down and nor terminated. This is what made me look at others. The one I was most worried about was the battery main rubbing the battery box and the hot wires to the tank heater that they ran over the frame rail and pinched between the tank. I removed these and re-routed them so they will not short.

The first thing I did on my 198RD, I went wild with wire insulation and tie-rips. Took as much apart where I had access to the wires. It still amazes me there are not more units go up in smoke the way the wiring is done. In homes they would not get away with wiring the way it is done in RV's
