Norcold Died

Yep, after 3.5 years of full time use the cooling unit in my Norcold has died. My dealer will be talking to Jayco on Monday. I am covered under the Jayco extended warranty until August 2015 so that is good thing.

I'll keep all of you posted of how Jayco handles this.

It is a Norcold Model N1095.

Sorry for the refrigerator failure, I know it is a PITA

I sure hope ours runs for many years, we decided to not get the extended warranty.

If our refrigerator failed, we would most likely put a residential unit in place of the Norcold unit.

Keep us posted on the resolution.

Make sure they check to see if your serial number is included in the Norcold Recall. I cant remember if this is one of the series off the top of my head.

The N1095 is not included in the recall, but since I'm covered with the extended warranty I'm OK.

Rob,

I didn't pay for the extended warranty. Jayco offered it free to help dealers move 2010's. I had already cut my deal with my dealer before the warranty was offered but hadn't closed. At closing the dealer said "Oh by the way you are getting a just announced 3 year extended warranty for free". They showed me the dealer notice which was dated just a day or so before we closed so I know they didn't just add the cost to my deal. I lucked out as I probably would not have bought the extension. I usually don't.

I lucked out Crabman. One of the advantages of living in a small town. I was up at the local coffee morning stop for most of the men in town yesterday morning and the manager of the town water system, when he noticed me buying ice, asked what happened. He then said to follow him up to the water department shop and he loaned me:

I was getting ready to buy one, but free is better. It is small, but my iced tea pitcher was at 37 degrees this morning.

The warranty manager at my dealer works Tuesday-Saturday so she just came to work this week today, AND Jayco's extended warranty is replacing my entire refrigerator with a brand new one. Not just the cooling unit, the entire refrigerator. My dealer said they should have it by Thursday or Friday and their service manager will install it on my site this weekend.

I don't buy extended warranties, but I'm sure glad I had one this time.

I was supposed to have my new refrigerator replaced last evening, but my dealer's service manager had something that came up so he asked if he could delay the installation 24 hours. Since he is coming to my site 35 miles from the dealership to do the work I certainly did not complain. Today, Saturday, is one week since the problem occurred. I think getting a new replacement refrigerator approved for warranty, extended or otherwise, and having it installed in a week is superb. I am happy anyway.

He does live about half way from my home base site to the dealer so he isn't going far out of his way. He did ask if I could provide some extra muscle power to help move the old fridge out and the new one in. It didn't require much time to agree to his request. Much easier than unhooking utilities and moving to the dealership. He will get a nice tip I can assure you.

Sounds like you are getting very good service. Which unfortunately is sometimes a thing of the past. Glad it is all working out for you.

Good luck with your replacement unit!

Good service is indeed getting harder to find. Our Heat Pump Air Handler caught fire a month ago. Two young men showed up the same day...put little booties on their feet each time they came in and out of the house....refused our hospitality for coffee or drinks....showed me everything that was damaged and were very patient as I photographed / documented the loss.

The guy who came back to rebuild the damage was an older gentlemen....he didn't wear booties and soiled our carpet...whined on the phone to his office / us about how this job was harder than he expected...did sloppy work and a left mess behind for me to clean up.

Guess which one didn't get a tip.....

My new Norcold was installed about 3 hours ago and it is cooling like crazy. Total cost to me $75.00. The Jayco extended warranty has a $100.00 deduct unless you have the work performed by the original selling dealer which I did. Then the deduct is $75.00.

Here is a picture of the confirmation of failure of the cooling unit. Note the spot on the insulation that has obviously been hot. The failure point was just on top of the heating element insulated tube which you can see in the bottom of the picture.

They took care of you rather quickly. One thing about Jayco, they take care of their customers warranty problems.
