Onan genset sputtering

1996 Class C "Designer" 2950SB. Onan 4000 Foreign matter got in between rotor and stator and damaged windings. Pulled genset, replaced rotor and reinstalled. Ran great until warm and then would sputter every 4-5 minutes, even with no elect. load. Checked ignition wires, changed fuel filter with no luck.

Warmed it up to change the oil and noticed that the fuel line to the carb was so hot it burned my fingers. Put pipe insulation on it and the problem went away! Engine heat was making fuel vaporize before it entered the carb bowl (vapor lock!) Unit was running closed up just as Onan recommends for proper cooling. Anyone else experience this?
