Paint Flaking off 2013 Jayflight ??

I was looking at the front of my 2013 Jayflight today and noticed that the paint is flaking off the front of it. Even the decals have spots on them. There are no dents so I ruled out hail and rocks. The spots seem to be the upper half of the front and are flaked off to show bare aluminum. The only thing that I could figure might cause it would be from bugs but if that's the case there won`t be any paint left up there after some more traveling.

I never had this happen to my previous trailers.

Has any one else experienced this and is there a solution to prevent further damage ?

It's probably just flawed paint application.
On a '13 you should still be in your 2yr warranty period. Get it in while that's the case.

Sorry I don,t have a solution, is it still under warranty? What do you remove the bugs with? Do you cover it at all? The cover might be rubbing off the finnish. I covered my 26s and the tarp rubbed the paint off of the lower aluminum.

I would say the problem may be love bugs. Do a Google search for "love bugs and car paint". I suggest this because of your location in South Georgia.

Thanks for the replies. I do not cover it so its not that. Not sure about the love bugs as I don`t recall traveling while they were out. but could be from bugs of some type. Still don't know why they would have caused the paint to flake off to show bare aluminum unless if it is a bad paint job as mentioned . I will check my dealer and see if they have had any other problems with jayflights doing this.

I called my dealer yesterday and they have not had any jayflights with this problem but they told me to take pictures and email them in. I did that this morning and the dealer is going to contact Jayco and get an approval for the work before I take the trailer over there.

Ok after a long wait I just got word back today from my dealer that Jayco will not paint the front of the trailer but will replace the front end panels. Seems as Jayco does not paint over the aluminum .

That being said will this end up being a big mess , water leaks, gaps ect and my warranty will be out in October.

So would it be better to leave it alone ? Thanks for any advice.

See if the dealer will pressure test after the panels are replaced. Also, see what type of guarantee they offer on their work.

Why would it be a big mess, if the dealer is competent there should be no leaks or gaps. We had two sides and the rear aluminum siding replaced on an old trailer of ours after a big hail storm and had absolutely no leaks or gaps. Dealer did a great job.

Just don't like the fact that the front end has to be opened up and cause the potential for problems and my warranty is nearing expiration.

I don't believe they really "open" anything up. They just take off the old skin and put on a new one, along with caulking wherever necessary. There are probably places that will paint aluminum, but from what you have said, Jayco will pay for the new paneling, so why not do it, Jayco apparently won't pay to have it re-painted.
