Permatex or No for Bearing Seal?

Do you use a sealer like Permatex on the OD of the hub seal when you service your bearings? My understanding has been that a double lip seal with the "blue coating" around the OD does not need it.

What is your practice? If you use Permatex, what color do you use? Red, black . . .?

Thank You!

Double lip seal, no permatex.
Never any problems.

Thanks, guys! I bought some nice Timken bearings and races and double lipped seals from Drivetrain America. Great people to trade with. I am going to try Lucas Red and Tacky this time.

According to the Lippert sticker, our axles were built in March 2016. They may be beautiful inside or they may be in trouble. The only way to find out is to open them up and service them right.

I will post good or bad when I get into them. I will also post the suspension status, too. I am curious to see how the equalizers and leaf bushings are wearing. I probably have the wonderful polymer bushings/sleeves in the shackles. I hope the get another season out of them before changing them out to brass or steel. At that time, I hope to replace the stock bolts with wet bolt kits, as well. Our unit has 6-7K on it, including the trip down (30 miles south of Birmingham) from Indiana.
