Piezo ignition lighter

The ignitor does not seem to light the burners on our Atwood stove, the previous owner said he always used a bbq lighter. You can see spark when you turn the ignitor but none of the burner will light. Are they worth replacing or am I better off using the bbq lighter.

Turning the knob faster will do the job

The wires that connect to the burner are very thin, solid wire, and break very easily. You can break one just by cleaning the catch tray under the cook-top. I had one go out after a few months, and my dealer gave me a new one under warranty. About a week later, a second one went out. I've been using a BBQ lighter since then. I suspect that's the problem with yours. If you put you hand along the wire in just the right spot, you can actually "feel" the spark at the break point. I've checked at several RV dealers, and no one seems to carry them in stock. Can't imagine why, since they break so easily. I did check out Amazon, and found a 3-pack for about $12 + change.

Hope that helps!

Well I tried rotating the knob faster but still no go, the wires seem okay so I guess I had better get used to the BBQ lighter, no big deal I guess. Thank you guys for your suggestions.

Try cleaning off the ends of the igniters with an emory board. Sometimes they get a little "crud" on them and the spark isn't quite what it should be. Also, make sure all the burner ports in the area of the igniters are open and not plugged with something.

Thank you for the tip, I did try it but still no go. I see that only two of the three have a weak spark so I think maybe I will order a new ignitor.

John, also check the gap from the igniter wire to the burner, and see if they're all the same. I'm sure there's a spec for the gap distance, but not sure what it is. You can check the gap on the one strong one, and compare to the other two. May turn out to be an adjustment.

Ok thanks, I will have a look at that as well.
