Plastic water heater plug
I am looking for replacement plastic drain plugs for my Atwood water heater on my 5th wheel. Since Dometic bought out Atwood, I can’t find a replacement plug that fits. If you order a replacement plug for the Atwood, it doesn’t fit. The threads are different although it says it is for an Atwood. My dealer can’t get any that fit either. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Any local plumbing store should have a plug that fits. It may be brass or copper but that’s even better since the plastic one is cheap and gets damaged easily.

I think I bought replacements at Lowe’s or HD.

Shouldn't you be concerned about mixing different types of metals, due to galvanic corrosion?

I’ve heard of it, never had an issue, maybe I’m just lucky

The pipe seal tape is saving you from galvanic corrosion by acting as an electrical insulator.

I think what he's saying is that the standard plastic plug we all have in our Atwood water heaters doesn't fit in his. Not sure why that would be.  I carry 2 replacements bought at local hardware store as well.

We replaced it with an anode made from magnesium. Take your plug to Ace or Walmart and match the pipe threads and diameter. Get the one that is about 6". Don't get the zinc. And yes Atwood sepl[ls them on their web site.

Mine is a 1/2 pipe thread. you can get one at Home Depot or Lowes
