Propane regulator trouble

During a recent road trip, I noticed a gas smell outside the TT, and found small leaks at both threaded connections into the dual regulator (Cavagna Type 924N). Upon disconnecting the right side hose, a small rubber "ball check valve" (my guess as to its function) fell out. It consists of a small black rubber ball and a rubber cylinder into which it fits. I assume the ball goes into the cylinder, and then the ball end goes into the opening first.

Any thoughts on reinstalling this correctly?

Thanks.

Never mind. Since it's a dual regulator, I removed the hose from the other side and confirmed that what I thought was in fact the correct orientation. Reinstalled the pieces and tightened, using appropriate pipe thread sealant.

If the pipe sealant isn't YELLOW teflon or yellow pipe dope( Rectorseal what I use ) it's not for propane.

Throw it away and replace the whole unit. Ours went the second year and my buddy's the first year. Both crappy Cavagnas on Jaycos. Always keep a spare assembly on hand. No fun to run out of heat when its below freezing outside.
