Proper repair of underbelly membrane?

I recently had a blowout that resulted in a tread separation and subsequent damage to the membrane (plastic cover) behind the wheel opening. I see this opening as a potential access point for critters and want to patch the rather large hole.

What methods have members used for a durable pest/weather-proof seal?

I have always used expandable spray foam to seal the underbelly openings. Once hardened, I will spray paint in black to blend in. When I've had to make an opening, I would pierce a small hole on both sides of the cut and plastic zip tie to close and then reseal with the foam.

I do not recommend using spray foam. Spray foam will absorb and hold water, which in turns can cause mold and rot issues.

Can you post a few pictures of the damaged area?

On the spray foam it really depends if its a open or closed cell type. Whatever you use I'd spray on undercoating after the repairs.
