Refrigerator yellow dust of death?
I just found this yellow powder stuff this morning on my new JayFlight 154BH Dometic refrigerator.
First time the refrig. was turned on, brand new trailer. Ran the refrig for 3 days then found this.
I think this is the yellow corrosion protection they put in the system and it turns to powder when it leaks out with the ammonia. I never smelled ammonia.
The really strange thing is that my original problem with this new refrig was that it cooled to 28 degrees regardless of where I set the sliding thermistor: too much cooling.
When I took off the outside access panel to test the thermistor ohms (it checked good) I saw a large amount of yellow dust on the bottom pipes and plywood, stained plywood, and I saw one drop of something fall down to the plywood but disappear, not wet. I cleaned it all up before researching what it might be.
The pictures are what is left after cleaning up.
I think the big problem is the cooling unit is toast on this brand new unit, but why would the other problem be too much cooling at the same time?
I'm just throwing this out there for feedback from people who know a lot more than I do about these refrigerators.
I have made a warranty service appt. but it is two months from now so the trailer just sits, never had an outing.
