Roof Myself or Submit Claim to Jayco
So I just brought home our new leftover 2018 Whitehawk 29FLS. It is our 4th new travel trailer after having 3 Wildernesses by Heartland. Each one got progressively worse in the quality control department. I was torn between Jayco or Rockwood. I did a lot of research and decided on a Jayco dealer about 70 mile away. No Rockwood dealers close by. We chose the Jayco and was promised a spit shined travel trailer upon delivery and everything would have been checked. Unfortunately I did not go up on the roof at the original showing. The day of the PDI I went up and was taken back by the filth and loose membrane near the front cap. The salesman's response..."we don't clean the roofs!" I mentioned the loose membrane and he said "we are not putting on a new roof". Now I realize that I should have kept the check in my shirt pocket and drove away. I am attaching pictures of the area. It is about a foot long and in 2 different places. Should I attempt repair with Eternabond tape or file a claim with Jayco? I realize that if I repair it the 2 year warranty will be voided most likely. I do want to replace all of the self leveling calking with the tape eventually. Please, no lectures on the PDI as I know I screwed up. Any advice will be appreciated.

Ramman,
Welcome to JOF
Based on the photo it doesn't look like a 'normal' little ripple, especially with two of them ......, I would initiate a service warranty claim request (create paper trail) before diving into a repair yourself. If dealer blows you off, contact Jayco (via e-mail, w/pics).

X-2 Since the dealer refused to repair something sounds a little fishy...

I would think the warranty would still be good if the trailer has only been owned by the dealership and you’re the first owner.

Yikes, that looks sketchy, hopefully the wood underneath isn’t soft and this is just cosmetic. I’d start negotiations immediately and hope for the best rather than just assume they won’t help.

Yeah that’s not normal. I would have walked away even if the dealer had said they’d fix it. At this point I’d make a warranty claim...

In the paperwork they didn't write "as is" or mention that no new roof would be provided did they? I would contact Jayco with pictures. I believe your under warranty. If everyone stonewalls you, for $300 an attorney will send a letter, then you'll get your new roof. Sometimes you gotta use a stick, but exhaust all other measures first. Contact then in email and start a paper trail.

Don't the roof material manufacturer give a 12 year warranty?

Wrinkles in the roofing membrane is fairly common, and people do not like it. From the pictures it it is hard to tell if it is out of the ordinary or not. The membrane is not glued down, just edge stapled. Jayco is probably denying it as it is not leaking, torn, or damaged, just cosmetic.
I would take a few more pictures, and email them into Jayco's service department. Make sure when they reply with a decline of service, reply back for details why they are declining service. To ensure you have a paper trail.

Thank you all for the replies and advise. I talked to our salesman last week and he told me to send pictures to him and he would initiate a warranty claim for us. Have yet to hear back from him. I will take your advise and pursue it all the way to a lawyer if it ever comes to that. I will also be sure to post outcome back on here in the future with updates.

From reading members forum experiences, the warranty is on the cost of the material. They don't cover the labor to replace it. Follow up on that as it's just my experience from others.

If you are the first owner you have a 2 year warranty. Doesn't matter if it was sitting on a dealers lot for 2 years. Take it to another dealer if they won't replace roof

skip the dealer and go straight to Jayco. Explain what the dealer said. they may send you to another dealer.

As a owner who just went through a roof (bubble) issue, the 12 year warranty is for roof membrane only for defects. They DO NOT AND WILL NOT cover installation and “They” says most issues are installs not membrane failure.

Roof manuf warranty isn't worth the ink it takes to print it. I had a membrane failure at 5 years and they offered me $250.00 total and only then if I would use their membrane to replace the roof. Yeah, Really going to do that.
I went to rvroof.com and where they sprayed my entire roof including all of the caulking joints. No more roof issues for me and that was 5 years ago.
Never Ever will I own another rubber roof longer than it takes to get is coated with RV-Flex Armor.

Not a bubble! Two or three heaps of roofing material raised up. Clearly an installation issue one would think. Still no word from dealer. I will be making a call soon.

I tuned in a warranty claim for stress cracks on the fiberglass nose on my 2018 Eagle. Had been waiting for a year and a half for the dealer to repair it so with no replies so I called Jayco. They said take it to another dealer or wait for this dealer to get back to us. Good luck to you with the dealer and Jayco doing getting repairs. The warranty is just a piece of paper.
