Roof Wrinkle on 2018 321RSTS

Hello all, and hope you can give me some ideas. Take a look at the photo of my roof and you can see the wrinkle. Ideas on if I should be concerned and if I should I guess the place to start is where I bought it at Camping World in Asheville NC. Sorry the picture is sideways. But the wrinkle is at the front near the end cap.

Thanks for all input.

It is a issue for sure. As far as Camping World...........I would probably find a different Jayco Dealer to fix it if they will. Buying from Camping World is one mistake, try to keep from making a 2nd one by having them work on it. They will probably have it for months knocking you out of Fall camping. If you do use CW report and show it to them right away..........but take it in when you're done for the season.

Ideas Leo as to what it is and the Cause?

Leo,
Thanks for the reply and understand the issue with CW. Any ideas as to what is going on under the wrinkle and the cause? I hate to take it and leave it all winter, when I keep it under its own carport.
There is a Jayco dealer a few miles from CW but not sure they will service it under warranty. Should I let Jayco see this photo and comment?
Leo, thank you for your quick reply too.
Jay

I have a few similar looking bubble-up areas of rubber roof membrane on my 2018 SLX 267BHSW, under a year old. I asked my CW dealer to take a look at while they were fixing another warranty issue (stove exhaust fan) and they called me back in a few days and said I had a bigger roof concern which was that the roof membrane was sitting atop the edge of the metal siding that, for some reason, extended about 1/4 inch above the roof deck material. No leaks or holes in the membrane. Jayco would not approve anything more than 1 hour of labor to reseal some spots in the lap seal around a skylight, etc. I spent half an hour on the phone with the Jayco rep today and he explained that they would not approve the major job of fixing the sharp metal edge issue because it was, to paraphrase here, not a serious problem until it protrudes through the membrane and causes a leak, and also said this is something that he's seen happen across the industry and named a couple of manufacturers. So, I'm disappointed at this point, but not sure just how worried I should actually be that this will actually result in a water intrusion problem in the near future or later. As for the bubbling up of the membrane in spots, he said the membrane is "spot glued" so it is not adhered with glue to every square inch of the rood decking, and it can then loosen and tighten back down with temperature changes. He said you can draw a circle around a bubbled-up area and check later and it will frequently have settled back down in place. Again, not sure just how worried I need to be about it. I have some experience repairing a rubber roof membrane leak on an older used trailer I had previously, and had to replace 3/8 inch particle board roof decking, and shore up/reinforce roof joists in a couple spots, and then replace ceiling material inside, which was quite a challenge but I learned a lot about how to use Eternabond roof tape, which is remarkable stuff, I must say. Anyway, here's my story for what it's worth. As for CW, my local dealer has tried to do the right thing in my opinion, and the issue I may have now is with Jayco. I will be watching my roof condition carefully, to say the least.

It is not great workmanship but it is something I wouldn't worry about. Any roof will have a wrinkle somewhere.

Ours has staples that randomly protrude; I deal with them on a case by case bases. But we have no wrinkles. If it were mine, I would monitor the spot. If it got worse, I would surgically open the material, judiciously cut away the excess, tack it with EDPM or TPO roofing adhesive, and close it up tight with Eternabond and Eternabond sealant/caulk. I would not allow a dealer hack, Jayco, other any other RV "specialist" to touch it, warranty or no warranty. I know this is an unpopular approach, but after being reamed by the industry (on several levels), it is how I roll. I have learned my lessons.

This philosophy right here 👆

I’d rather have the satisfaction doing it myself knowing how it was done and that it was done right vs some hack job.

Fixed numerous items already on mine anywhere from screws popping out of roof ladder stand offs and missed sealant.

When we picked up our 2018 Eagle HT 28.5 RSTS a year ago we had a number of wrinkles/bubbles like that. The dealer made note of it but said most should settle down after some of the adhesive off-gassing stopped. I wasn't very confident they would settle down but I was up there installing a 2nd AC over the weekend and most have indeed gone away.

My guess though is that the bubble areas are mostly devoid of adhesive but will keep and eye on them. Like tott9713 said though I too will do any work needing to be done. I know my work quality would be equal to or likely much better than the dealer would do. Besides the down time and likelihood of someone backing into our RV is less in my driveway!

My 2018 Octane had a few large wrinkles in the roof when I picked it up. My dealer worked with Jayco and they took it back to the factory and replaced the roof decking and rubber.

I am very satisfied in the job the factory repair center did. I was very concerned about how it would turn out, even my dealer said that it was one the best installed roofs he has seen in years.

X2, most of the membranes on these tts are laid loose, and secured only on the sides, at the gutters, and caps. Driving down the rood, it just shifts a bit. It would be nice if they did a better job pulling them up tight. In the end it is only cosmetic.

Thanks for all the feedback and I will have it out from under the carport next week and will see how it reacts from having sun back on it.

I have a few small issues and never taken back to CW since bought it and hope I don’t have two. But if it gets worse I will.

I can see them keeping it all winter to only work on it a hour or two. But thanks All for The feedback
