Schwintek Slide Jam..
My brother in-law took his new Jayco Eagle 351MKTS FW for it's first camp-out this week...., and later I was told that his large street-side Schwintek kitchen/living room slide made a "crunching" sound just before it was fully extended when he was setting up at the CG.. What he found was that one end of the slide was flush with the wall (as it should be when extended out), but the other end was still 6" out from being flush with the wall....... not good.
I arrived at the same CG a couple of days later with my TT, and after setting up at my campsite I headed over to his FW. Just like he said, one end was off by 6". He called the slide manufacture and they told him that it sounded like the motors were out of sinc, so they told him how to re-sinc the motors. He had tried it twice, but had the same results...crunching sound then jammed, but now the other end wasn't flush.
I went back to my truck and retrieved my ladder thinking I'd take a look at the top of the slide from the outside. Yep, found what looked like a piece of broken frosted glass, and some witness "skid" marks on the slide roofing material. Then we went inside the FW and I was able to reach up on the exposed slide roof and retrieved three more pieces. Putting the pieces together we found that is was a lens from one of the recessed ceiling lights.
Apparently sometime during the 30 mile trip from his house to the CG the lens popped out and landed on the roof off the closed slide....., mystery solved. We closed the slide, then opened it without any "crunching" sound this time and both ends were flush with the wall.
Ok, I didn't mind checking for debris before closing...., but before opening wasn't on my to-do list
Tomorrow we plan to inspect the slide roofing material real close, and also the other recessed ceiling light lenses.

It is a good idea to check the tightness of those screw in glass lenses from time to time. We had the one under the cabinet near the range fall off and shatter on the counter top.
It is good to know that a jam like that did no permanent damage. One more thing to look for. Thanks for the heads up.

Norty1,
I don't believe the lenses in my brother in-law's new Eagle screw in , fairly certain they 'snap' into the housing......., going to double check later today out of curiosity.

Crunching sounds and RV`s are never a good combination! Hopefully there was no serious damage.

Confirmed this afternoon that the recessed ceiling light lenses in my brother in-law's new Eagle FW are a snap-in style, no screws. I guess the change is to conserve on weight and cost

Good, I don't know if they come loose on their own. My dealer provided my replacement lens under warrenty because it looked like it was not screwed in tight.
I have had no other problems and have them all over the rig. I have not looked at a 2012 to see if they changed the fixture.

I'm guessing the 2012 is the same as the 2011. On mine you turn the lens 1/4 turn or so to put it on

Hmmm, good point. I didn't look "rea"l close at the broken lens pieces, but I know it didn't have any clearance holes for attaching with screws. I looked up at the remaining recessed ceiling lights and didn't see any screws, but it is very possible that they could be as you stated......, a screw in lens. I will mention this to my brother in-law.
Now I know what member Norty1 meant by "check the tightness of those screw in glass lenses"....., I was thinking of an actual threaded screw.

Sorry if I was not clear, to install the lens, you push it into the slot and turn it even less than a quarter turn. The lens is made of frosted glass about 1/4 in thick.
