Skylight degraded and cracked

Climbed up on the roof to sweep the slide in preparation for a Oregon coast trip.
Found this. After 10 months the long and south facing edge of my kitchen skylight is completely degraded. Cracked all along the base and up the side of it, nearly put my finger through a soft spot.

Covered that side and edges with Eternabond for now.

Skylight degraded and cracked

Only 10 months old and the skylight is that bad? Wow that's not good. I didn't want the extra light they offer so I special ordered mine without the skylights. This would be a bonus reason not to have them installed...

That's a good reason to take it in for warranty work...

I think not, each time I take it to the dealer it comes back in worse shape.

Last time in not only did they not repair the electrical short, they dragged a braided hose up over the edge of the roof resulting in a slice in the rubber running a full 1/4 length of the trailer.

I'm thinking Jayco has good design and engineering but the quality control on this trailer (out of Idaho) is poor and the dealer's service dept is nearly incompetent.

At this point the trailer will be in better shape if I just repair it myself.

Yes, I do my own repairs as well. I was surprised at the lack of mechanical ability and product knowledge/training the repair personal at my dealership have. I found that out during our PDI. Luckily, nothing major has failed. If something did go wrong that I could not handle, I would bite the bullet and have my local mechanic or building contractor handle it. It beats having the RV tied up at the dealer for weeks.

I replaced my skylight over the bath when I had the RV Flex Armor roof installed 5 months ago. The skylight was showing it's age, but was still in good shape. I just didn't want the old skylight to be up there with a brand new roof. Now all is new and in great shape and no caulking anything up there EVER.

I have seen cracks like that that were obviously caused by improper installation. Torqueing down a screw on that material can cause future problems including cracks.
