Stay away from "Crappy of Colorado" products... I had one professionally installed and it flapped and banged horribly in the wind.. Had it replaced with a different one and am happy now...

Well, my Carefree topper has been just that since we bought our camper in 2016. I’d buy them again. Sorry yours were crappy…

I had slide toppers in the past and never credited them in a VERY positive way. The new unit did not have them on a double slide. After three months of being under trees, I climbed the ladder and saw the jungle of seed, limbs, leaves, growth- especially bonding to the inner box flanges that come in contact with the seals.

Moreover, I had to climb the roof and on my knees, clean the slide roof. I evaluated the cost of medical bills with my falling off the roof, the cost of damaged seals from the slide debris as well as potential water intrusion and concluded that it is worth it to have the slide installed. My investment was $550 for the slide on Amazon and the dealer installed the slide for $150; Well worth it in my opinion.

Obviously your professional installer didn't do it right. I had Carefree on both MH's, I installed the first set and the factory did the second one and neither flapped or held water.

Ours have held up well and we just this year replaced the fabric on the slides and last year replaced the fabric on the main awning. They can be cleaned underneath with a long mop or sponge and rinsed off. We only had dust buildup and it was not a problem. Only problem is lubing the top seals but I have been able to spray them by using the silicone can with the long shot nozzle from both ends and then a cloth on a stick to clean up any overspray. I don't know why the factory does not install them a few inches higher where the attach to the sidewall. It would prevent most of the pooling.

Another find was the replacement fabric was heads better than the cheaper fabric that came on them.

We are set up for 2 months and have our awning anchored down with ties, also a mesh sunscreen that is also anchored to the awning and ground with bungees.
We have had several good rains/ wind events and no problems.
Since we live near the gulf coast, and spend a lot of the winter days and nights on the beach. I fill two-one gallon milk bottles with beach sand and hang them with bungies from the out side corners of the awning, seems to work well. Takes care of the gust and wind direction changes on the beach.

Thanks for posting this. Just experienced ice on my slide roof for the very first time. If a slide topper will work so I don't have to get the ladder out each time it would be worth it.
