Slideout malfunction

Hi folks!
I have a 2014 Jay Flight 33RLDS. The problem I am experiencing is related to the kitchen side slide out. When retracting the slide, a loud popping/banging noise can be heard. The slide appears to close completely, but I am certainly concerned about the noise as that has only begun during our last camping trip. Anyone else had this happen, and if so, what was the cause?

Welcome to JOF

I would start with the obvious....., check for debris (branches, etc.) that may have fallen on the slide roof while at the campsite, and check for any loose outer trim/wiper seals being damaged. Check underneath the slide for any obstructions, and confirm that the cable-tracks are intact (wires, plumbing run thru them).

Confirm that the slide is tracking at the normal height over carpet/flooring (torn carport, etc.)...., and for any loose wood facia trim. Check the interior ceiling lights for any cover lenses that may have fell onto the slide roof......, happened to my BIL and made all kinds of popping noises (glass breaking) when closing the slide.

The other area of focus would be the drive system and associated components.

Bob

Thanks, Bob. This just recently happened so I have not had a chance to inspect thoroughly. Was parked underneath a tree at the last campground, so there could be something like a limb or such causing the problem. I'll certainly check that out.
Thanks again,
Ken

If you have topper on the slide check that also. Mine is binding causing issues like that.

Thanks Shadester, however I do not have toppers on this unit. Wish I did.

Our bedroom slide pops and creaks but it's done that from day one and always seals properly. If you can get under the trailer, inspect the teeth on the rail to see if there's any missing or worn out. On our trailer there is an access panel underneath to do a visual inspection on the slide motor.

Just got a brand new 267BHSW and it's doing the same thing you describe. I unfortunately didn't operate the slide myself during the PDI . . . And first time I tried it when I got home (after leveling the trailer first, of course!), there it is, about 5 or 6 pop noises on the way in and a couple on the way out. Mine has rack and pinion, not Shwintek, for slide mechanism. Will be interested to hear of any other tips here. Am expecting to make another trip back to the dealer here soon to have it checked out as a stuck slide is no fun from everything I've heard.

Hate to hear that about a new unit, GL243. Well, I extended the slide on my trailer and inspected as best I could and could not find anything obviously out of kilter. However, I ran it back in and the issue had apparently corrected itself. I operated the slide several times here at home and it seems to be ok, at least for now. I appreciate all the responses to this issue from other members and will surely let you 'all know if the issue reoccurs.
