Sorry Everybody

After 6 years we started having issues with our main whisper quiet AC in our 377 and had it checked out last fall. Unfortunately, they are not able to recharge the unit as everything these days is a throw away item. We had to get a new AC with heat pump and got it installed this past week. They of course are not making the same unit and the new ones are 2" taller and 6" shorter in length. I now have to remember that I will be 13'8" tall. My parts guy whom I have been working with and trust for the past 20 years told me that I received the last AC on the lot. He says that all the rest are going to OEM and being placed on RV's since they are so hard to come by. So I guess it is my fault if you need a new AC and cannot get one. Sorry Everybody.

Thanks for the warning. I guess if I have AC issues, I'll have to go old school, and get a couple fans.

were you able to keep the old AC? If it was just a need of recharging, i'm wondering if an HVAC guy could have soldered on a fitting for refilling, purged and refilled it.

Yes it can have a fitting either brazed on or the cheap clamp style. How did the tech determine the unit was out of refrigerant ? I'm retired HVACR . I'm also not saying all leaks are repairable.
I had a compressor go out on my 10 yr old bedroom 13500 Coleman . With a new run cap, filter dryer, refrigerant, silver solder , & compressor, $'s was way north of over 1/2 of a new one so I went that way. I still can buy supplies wholesale but not a rv AC.

This can save so many folks lots of money but lots of technicians won't do it. I have brazed fittings into several family members AC units so they could be recharged. I am pretty old school in my thinking and don't like to admit defeat. Sometimes to a fault!!!

I have a friend who is an HVAC guy and owns his own business and he said that he won't even look at it for they are more problems than he is willing to try to deal with. I trust him and that was why I went with the new one.

That's what etrailer told my buddy who needed brake drums and backers. He even paid for 2nd day shipping. 4 days later, no parts. Etrailer said they were in stock when he purchased them. Wrong! They had NONE in stock and no idea when they were getting any when he called asking where his parts were.

13’8”

Wouldn’t your front A/C be the highest point? Unfortunately my 377 has the tall A/C installed in the front position.

Unfortunately, that is BS about being able to not recharge an only 6 year old a/c unit.
Most of the time the service people are either lazy or inept at servicing and opt to change the unit out. :-(
