Squirrels enjoyed my propane line
I found that the squirrels chewed through my propane distribution line in several places between my regulator and where the line disappears under my camper. I have a 2016 26BH so I have about a 20’ hose to replace.
I’m thinking about replacing the hose with black iron pipe from just behind the batteries at the front of the camper to the manifold behind the axles. (Let’s see those suckers chew through that) Then either use copper or a short run of the rubber hose from the regulator to the black pipe.
Some have suggested simply running copper from the regulator all the way to the manifold. I’m just a bit hesitant since the copper under the camper would be subject to road debris. What are your thoughts?

I'd go black iron, that's all they used in the early years with copper branch lines. Rubber hose is just easier and cheaper, thus the change.

Rat sized snap traps and peanut butter works quite well on squirrels too. Those suckers can eat more than your rubber hoses. They managed to excavate quite a lot of the fiberglass from my RV port before I figured out where the insulation was coming from.

Yep, a friend had over $3,000 in damage to water lines and wiring after they got inside the trailer.

Yep. Have a neighbor who feeds them. Too bad they don’t just eat his food. When they make it into my yard I have to be very stealthy in terminating with extreme prejudice. But damage is done before you know it.

That’s the Subdivision Sniper’s weapon of choice. Then sit deep inside the house and shoot out an open door. Keeps the neighbor from hearing a shot.

Also, they do make a really nice .22 round with low powder that sounds like it's coming out of a silencer...just sayin! Not trying to break the rules on the forum.

have you considered armoring your pipe with aluminum conduit. I saw this one on Amazon that might work.
Southwire 55082305 3/4-Inch Alflex-Type RWA Reduced Wall Aluminum Flexible Metal Conduit
I had a car than was chosen as a new home for mice and they ate the wireing harness, several hundred dollars.

I thought about using something like this https://www.amazon.com/Brushtech-Pro.../dp/B000RE7W28 after I make the repair.
Looks like I’m heading to the plumbing supply store to find a 10’ piece of 1/2” black iron.
Thanks folks.

I would get some of the wiremesh covers from the auto parts and slide over the rubber hose. This makes them look nicer also.
Squirrels are just RATS with a prettier coat on!

We've had several propane lines for our Gas Grill get chewed by squirrels. I solved that problem using Frank's Hot Sauce. It's a terrible waste of great Hot Sauce, but the squirrels won't touch it. Unless we get a lot of rain, I usually apply it at the beginning of the season and then again about half way through the season.

I'll try the hot sauce, they can find their own dark chocolate to put out the fire.

When I bought my 23b this fall it came with 5 gallons of antifreeze. I had them next to my shed. The squirrels ate through the handle on one jug.
They got crazy this summer. They ate a few packages of my cashews I left out. 2 cans of nuts I left out another time and amost got through a big jug of planters honey roasted peanuts. (I eat a lot of nuts). Especially when I'm out working on this.
