Stupid brakes...

Last trip of the year - just the DW & me for a little weekend close to home. All two-lane slow-ish driving. Started smelling brakes & eventually an intermittent pull to the left. Finally freed up as we got to the CG. Had the rear calipers replaced in the Spring. Guess I need to get it back to the mechanic for a close look at the fronts. I'm figuring either a piston that won't retract reliably, a bad hose, rusted slide pins, or all three.

Dang. I thought I was done with mechanical stuff this year. Just hope we make it home without incident tomorrow.

It is the bane of motorhomes they sit too much and parts seize up from lack of use... Even if you are not camping take it out twice a month and drive it 10 miles.. My trailer never sits long enough for me to worry about this <Grin>

Yeah, I know. Since we bought it in June it's been driven at least once a month, either on a trip or for a brief exercise. Probably won't be able to do that as consistently over the winter, but it'll be on my mind.

Did make it home safely today with no signs of brake dragging. After the hurricane passes I'll see about giving the front brakes a thorough looking over.

Every other year I have the brakes on my tow vehicle serviced.. brake fluid changed calipers lubed.. etc.. to me Whoa is more important than go..

Not a bad idea. I may follow the same program with this rig. As you say, disuse is the devil with these.

$577 later, two new front calipers and resurfaced rotors. Gah.
