When you say support rod on the tongue, I am assuming you are talking about the electric tongue jack.
As for fuses. If you have an electric tongue jack you should have two fuses at the battery on the tongue. One for the tongue jack wiring. I would recommend replacing that fuse with a circuit breaker style. You can get auto and manual style. Every time you over extend the tongue jack it will pop the fuse. Or make sure to have lots of spares. I suspect the tongue jack gets its own fuse at the battery as it draws a LOT of current when it is in use, so this will keep the voltage drop to a minimum.
The other fuse is the main power line. The main power line gets a fuse on both ends, to protect the wire. This wire could have a power draw depending if you are connected to shore power or boondocking and using the battery. If there was no fuse at both ends, you could risk an electrical fire if the main power line.
