Water heater issues

Hello,

I have a Eagle HT 5er with the Atwood gc6aa-10e water heater. It stopped working on our last camping trip. It wasn’t until I got home that I noticed the 12v 15a blade fuse was blown. When I replaced the fuse, it started working again, but something was still not right. When I hit the Switch for electric water heat, the element heats up, but the gas also fires.

Just to be sure, and because parts are cheap, I replaced the heater element and the thermostat and eco switch.

Now, it’s working great, but I don’t believe the propane burner should be firing when just the electric heat switch is engaged (and not the LP switch). My understanding is that the unit will only use electric and LP if BOTH switches are flipped (dual fuel).

Have any of you encountered this issue? If so, can you share what caused it?

I agree with you on the separate switches working independently from each other. I've never heard of the condition you're talking about. What happens when the gas only switch is on. I guess it would be hard to determine unless you do a voltage check on the heat element. I believe the gas and electric both go through the control board.

When just the LP switch is flipped, gas fires, and electric element does not engage (verified with voltage tester).

The LP switch bad? Stuck on, even though it's turned off?

For anybody who finds this thread later, it was the circuit board. Replaced that and viola, all fixed.
