Water Pump

Good morning and a happy new year. This morning I went out to the wet bay to dump one of the grey water tanks that was full. Our Pinnacle freshwater pump can be turned on there and from the Jay command panel inside. There is a red light that is on with pump switch on, and it was on. We have yet to use the freshwater tank, always connected to city water. Neither one remembers turning it on, hard to do in the wet bay, as it is a rocker switch that you can't miss turning it on/off, but very easy to do from the panel inside. Checked the fuse that it shares with the macerator pump, and it tests ok, so I am afraid I may have burnt the pump? I can hear it when on, and there is absolute silence now, lol. A second question to possibly prevent this in the future, if I keep 3-4 gallons of water in the tank, so if it happens again the pump will pressurize and cycle off automatically?

If you're on city water the pressure is probably keeping it from running. They are pretty stout and almost never burn out.

Thank You Grumpy, did not know this. If not on city water and tank is empty, will it shut itself off before self-destroying? I still have no idea how the switch was turned on. I will turn city water off and give it a try

They have a built in thermal protection are designed to run dry and not burn up.

Again, thank You. Cut city water off and stuck my bad ears in the basement near where the pump is on the other side of the wall, and I can hear it cycle on. So much to learn, glad to be here on this great site.
