Wheel removal question

I'm getting our trailer out from storage at the end of the month, and will be prepping it for our season's worth of camping, with the first trip planned for weekend of May 18th, which is Victoria Day Long weekend here in the Great White North.

One of the things on my to-do list is servicing the bearing and inspecting the brakes. I don't do it as often as recommended, basically because the vast majority of our trips are short, usually within an hour or two from home. But I do realize that it has to be done eventually. So this will be the first time I've done it on this trailer. I've done it on others, so I am familiar with the process.

My question is this: Here's a photo of the wheels on our trailer:

What I would like to know is are those caps on the lug nuts? If they are, how do I take them off without wrecking them? On our old hybrid, the caps were just plastic and could be pulled off easily by hand, but these ones look like they're metal. If they're caps at all; I've never seen closed ended lug nuts, but I guess they do exist.

Here's a photo of the wheels of our old hybrid, showing the black plastic caps covering the nuts:

They do not look removable. They make lugs that have a non removable chrome cap.

Just put the right size socket on and undo the nuts. I have done mine many times ( servicing, to have tires changed etc ) no problems. The cap stays with the nut.

Thanks, guys, that's all I needed to know. I just didn't want to put a socket on there and honk down on it just to learn that they're just thin metal caps that had to be removed... and then spend far too much time and money on replacing the one I wrecked. But if they're integral to the nut and are meant to be removed together, then I know what I'm facing.

Yep, slip the right size lug nut wrench, and go to yown. I did have a cap pop off last summer when changing tires.

If these are not solid lug nuts, just replace them when they are off.

I replaced all mine after a few of the covers spun on the nut and caused all kinds of problems getting them off. It was a cheap fix and now I don't have to worry.

My rig came with Dexter Torque n go lugnuts. I have had good luck with them.
They are not torqued as tight as regular lugnuts.

So I'm guessing that letting the impact wrench hammer on them until they come off is out of the question.... But I'll keep replacements in mind if I need them. There's a few quality automotive/trailer places not far from home that I can go to.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. Now I know what to expect.

I can tell you it’ll be a matter of time before you’re going to replace the lug nuts. Eventually the caps on the lug nuts will deform or strip like mine did from taking the wheels on and off routinely. I never used an impact on mine. I just got a new set of solid lug nuts from amazon for under $30 for all 32.
